This documentary from KCNC Denver in early 1995 explain WHY they switched and how it affected Miami - ruclips.net/video/T-1v8H2ubZM/видео.html - It all began when FOX wanted a sports division. Network-affiliated stations owned by New World had become FOX-owned stations. Majority of New World stations were CBS affiliates (WTVT, WAGA, KDFW, WITI, KSAZ) that became FOX O&Os. The brouhaha ended in Philadelphia, where NBC wanted to buy WCAU from CBS, and Channel 10 would've been sister station to WTVJ Miami and KCNC Denver. However, for tax reasons, CBS suggested a trade. CBS gave WCAU to NBC yes, but they wanted NBC's other assets (KCNC Denver, KUTV Salt Lake City, and of course, the NBC Equipment in Miami, and that goes for the Channel 4 frequency that used to be in WTVJ's hands). CBS is now at KYW channel 3 (the former NBC affiliate owned by Group W/Westinghouse), and Channel 3 now has WCAU's former title as CBS O&O. CBS bought all of Group W stations, including KPIX and KDKA, who had already been with CBS under the Group W ownership. WTVJ now has the Channel 6 frequency (formerly of WCIX) and WCAU is now sister to WTVJ. KCNC and KYW are now sister station to WFOR.
